MARKET GARDENS

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

CSAs connect local growers with local consumers.

The CSA model originated in Japan over 30 years ago, where it is called "teikei". This translates to "putting the farmers' face on the food." CSA members share the costs, risks and bounty of growing food with the gardeners. Being a member creates a responsible relationship between people and the food they eat, the land it grows on, and those who grow it.

What is in a Share of the CSA?

Farm in the City specializes in organic produce including herbs, vegetables and flowers. We grow a wide range of heirloom tomatoes and garlic as well. Our produce will include an A to Z variety, beginning with cool weather crops (greens, peas and lettuces) in the early weeks and concluding with heavier, longer season vegetables such as squash and potatoes at the end. We do succession growing to ensure as much variety as possible throughout the fifteen weeks of the CSA.

Mill City Farmers Market

Led by Brenda Langton, chef and owner of Cafe Brenda and the new Spoonriver, the Mill City Farmers Market was started as a collaborative effort between Langton, Farm in the City, the Mill City Museum, Chipotle, and RiverWest Condominiums. The Wedge Co-op provided the first startup grant. Minneapolis-based Duffy & Partners donated branding and design services. The Mill City Market offers locally grown, seasonal foods and products only from the region’s finest sustainable and organic family farmers and small businesses.

Mill City Market May through October and is located between the innovative Guthrie Theatre and historic Mill City Museum, at Chicago Avenue and 2nd Street South, downtown Minneapolis.
